Our Maintenance Department team has been very busy in the Auditorium lobby getting some new lights installed. We are very appreciative of all that has been done to our main lobby over past several months and there are still a couple of more projects on a smaller scale to finish up. You can come see the new lobby lighting for the first time next week for the CHS Drama Department production of Mary Chase's comedy, "Harvey". We will pass along more info about the show and admission prices early next week. So, b
I hope that everyone had a great Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on Monday. We are back and the CHS Drama Department is getting with it in preparing for their production of "Harvey" by Mary Chase. We also have another run of elementary school programs coming up after the play is over so February is going to be a very busy month. In fact, we are going to be extremely busy until Spring Break. So, be watching the front page or go the calendar of events for the latest on what is going on here.
Conway High School Full Orchestra Concert is tonight at 6:30 PM. But, you already know about it. The Log Cabin Democrat had a picture of them rehearsing in this morning's edition. If you want to see it, go to thecabin.net and click on the E-Edition link. Please come out. Our students have worked very hard on this music and it would be nice to reward them with a lot of people in attendance.
Each year, we look forward to a special night involving our High School music students. For one night, the members of the Conway High School Orchestra join forces with Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students from our Band program to present a Full Orchestra Concert. Why has it become so special? The main reason is that it marks only one of two times that our Orchestra and Band students get together to make music. The other is for the Musical in April and that is on a limited scale. Conway High School Orchestra Director Karla Fournier always puts together a great program and we look forward to their performance on Thursday Night at 6:30 PM. Doors will open at 6:00 PM and it is free and open to the public.
I just wanted to give a special thank you to the directors of ASBOA Region IX for a wonderful Jazz Clinic held here in the Auditorium and also in the Music Complex and also in the New High School Lobby. We had the performances of all the groups Saturday Afternoon in the Auditorium and the directors of the four bands prepared their students well and made it a most enjoyable concert on a dreary afternoon. The ASBOA Region IX Band Clinic by the way will be in Russellville. For more information on the event there, contact the Music Department at Russellville High School.
This Friday and Saturday, High School and Junior High students from our area will be in the Auditorium and Music Complex preparing to play jazz pieces for the ASBOA Region IX Jazz Clinic. The public concert will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday and the doors will open to the general public sometime after 1:00 PM. I promise if you do not get here until 2:30 or so, you can still get a good seat.
There will be four Jazz Bands that will be performing. They are
The 2nd Junior High Jazz Band directed by Cody Jernigan of Heber Springs High School, assisted by Robin Ratliff of Heber Springs Middle School
The 1st Junior High Jazz Band Directed by Bill Spainhour of North Little Rock High School
The 2nd Senior High Jazz Band directed by Christian Carichner, Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Central Arkansas
And the 1st Senior High Jazz Band directed by Dr. Jackie Lamar, Professor of Saxophone at the University of Central Arkansas
We would encourage you to come out and join us for a great afternoon of music. And the best part is admission is free.
The date for the 2013 Conway High School Beauty Revue has been changed to Saturday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM. We hope that you will make your plans to attend this annual event sponsored by our Yearbook and Newspaper staffs. More information will be forthcoming.
All of us here at the Auditorium got to enjoy a much needed break from the things we do around here and we hope you were able to do the same thing. We have a lot of events scheduled as we start the second half of the year this week and are very excited about some of the events that are coming up. We have the ASBOA Region IX Jazz Clinic this Saturday along with the Conway High School Full Orchestra Concert on Thursday, January 17th. Then we will turn it over to the CHS Drama Department as they will present Mary Chase's delightful comedy "Harvey" on January 31st, February 1st and 2nd. After that, we will settle in with Elementary programs, Pre-Assessment Concerts for our Bands, Orchestras and Choirs, and a lot of other things as well. Please keep abreast by looking at the Calendar and also the home page for updates.
