All of us here at the Auditorium got to enjoy a much needed break from the things we do around here and we hope you were able to do the same thing. We have a lot of events scheduled as we start the second half of the year this week and are very excited about some of the events that are coming up. We have the ASBOA Region IX Jazz Clinic this Saturday along with the Conway High School Full Orchestra Concert on Thursday, January 17th. Then we will turn it over to the CHS Drama Department as they will present Mary Chase's delightful comedy "Harvey" on January 31st, February 1st and 2nd. After that, we will settle in with Elementary programs, Pre-Assessment Concerts for our Bands, Orchestras and Choirs, and a lot of other things as well. Please keep abreast by looking at the Calendar and also the home page for updates.
All of our bands and choirs from 7th through 12th grade have been very busy getting ready to perform their first concerts of the season and it all begins this Thursday Night. The three bands that are housed at Conway High School will get to lead off our Holiday Extravaganza with four concerts in eight days. Featured on the Thursday Night program will be the Conway High Concert Band directed by Paul Taylor, the Conway High Sophomore Symphonic Band directed by Dewayne Wilson, and the Conway High Symphonic Band directed by Tim Cunningham. I have had a chance to hear bits and pieces of the music some of these groups will perform and I am always amazed at how well they prepare for a program like this after being out of marching season for just five weeks. There will be traditional band selections and of course there will be a number of holiday pieces the groups will play. Make your plans to join us on Thursday Night. Doors open at 5:45 PM and the CHS Concert Band will start us off at 6:30. It is a great way to support the arts and admission is free.
As I sat in my office on this Tuesday Morning, I heard in the background coming from the Auditorium the sounds of our Conway High School Symphonic Band directed by Tim Cunningham. Knowing we are just a few days away from our first Secondary music events of the year made me pause for a moment and listen. Yes, there will be Christmas music on all of our music programs that the bands will be doing and the Choir concert on December 17th will just about be all Christmas Music. But, you also may hear other pieces that may not be for the Christmas season, but can strike a cord with you as it did with me. All of our students in the Secondary Music Programs in the district work hard to prepare and play for you our community of patrons. Please come out and support these students at these four concerts we will have that start on Thursday, December 13th at 6:30 PM with the Conway High School Bands. A schedule of the concerts is on the Auditorium home page. And the best part of it, the concerts are FREE!!!!
During the week of November 19th, the Auditorium will be closed to allow not only our custodial staff to do some much needed work, but also to allow all of us a chance to be with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Holidays. We will be back in session on Monday, November 26th. Have a great holiday from all of us at the Auditorium.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Conway High School Army JROTC for a wonderful Veterans Day Program Monday Morning. A special thank you to KARK Channel 4 Chief Meteorologist Keith Monahan for the inspiring message he gave us as well. We are indebted to the service of all of our Veterans that have served this country in all conflicts and appreciate them very much.

Since "Harvey" has been moved to January 31st, February 1st and 2nd, we are in a little break period for the Auditorium. We do have a couple of events coming up On Thursday, the ASVAB test for Juniors will be given. It is given by our Armed Forces and gives students that take the test, a chance to find out what career they might be best suited for. If your Junior student has not registered, do it soon by contacting the Counseling Center at Conway High School.

We have had two excellent music programs put on by the 3rd and 4th Graders at Theodore Jones Elementary and the 1st and 2nd Graders at Ida Burns Elementary. We were sorry to see Monica Hutchinson, who has served as Music Specialist at TJ for the last two-and-a-half years, lead her final program with us last week. But, her family has been relocated to another state and we will miss her very much. And the students responded with a great program of patriotic music based on the song "This Is America."
On Monday Night, Music Specialist Bart Dooley had his 1st and 2nd graders really in the spirit with their program "Howdy". We would also like to thank Sherry Norrell, Ida Burns' Reading Intervention Specialist, for her wonderful narration during the program. Sherry is always funny and made the program something special for everyone.
Tonight, our Junior and Sophomore Parents will be coming to the Auditorium for a program of information about what they can expect over the next two to three years. We have several interesting speakers that are being brought in by the CHS Counseling Center. Also, some of the teachers will be present with displays and will be available to visit before and after the program. We will open the lobby at 6:00 PM and the program starts at 6:30 PM.
Then, on Wednesday, we will be in rehearsals with First and Second Graders at Woodrow Cummings as they prepare for their program "Rhythm, Rhyme, and Move In Time" on Thursday Evening at 6:30 PM.
If you have not done so, please go to our home page for some information about the postponement of the Conway High School Fall Play, "Harvey" along with the rescheduled dates for the show.
Tonight our CHS, CJHS and 7th Grade Middle School Choir students will perform music that they worked on for the Arkansas Choral Director's Association West Central Region Festival. The concert will put the bow on preparations for auditions to the various groups that will perform on November 3rd at the Alma High School Performing Arts Center. Students will be going to audition for the spots over the next two weekends. The concert is the highlight of the clinic. We had to move the clinic to last Friday due to Middle School testing requirements. We look forward to the concert at 6:30. Please come by and support our choir students. There is no admission. Doors will open around 6 PM.
