Fourth Grade students at Ellen Smith Elementary were with us this morning along with their teachers and Music Specialist Christina White to rehearse for this evening's program "Dreamcatcher". We will not only have some great music for you to enjoy, but there is a story that goes along with it. If you have time in your schedule, please do stop by attend their program. It starts at 6:30 PM. Doors will open at 6:00 PM.
A REMINDER FOR PARENTS WITH STUDENTS WHO HAVE SPEAKING OR SINGING SOLOS; Your children need to be here at 6:00 PM. All other students must be seated on the risers by 6:15 PM.
Choir students at Conway High, Conway Junior High and our four Middle Schools are participating in a unique choir clinic today. They are preparing to Audition for the ArkCDA West Central Region All-Region Choir. The students are also getting ready to participate in a concert Tuesday Night, October 9th at 6:30 PM which will highlight the work they have done today and also give you a sneak peak of the music that will performed on November 3rd at the Alma High School Performing Arts Center. If you are a parent, guardian or relative along with friends of participants, come out Tuesday Night.
One of the traditions we have had here for many years has been hosting a Talent Show for Sallie Cone Elementary. Although Sallie Cone is now a memory, the Talent Show experience will continue when Carolyn Lewis Elementary presents an evening of talent on Thursday starting at 6:30 PM. There is always a wide variety of acts. I do not know what kind we will have but you can expect the usual array of singers, dancers, instrument players and others performing just for your applause. We will have students from all grade levels participating. So, if you have nothing on your calendar for Thursday Night, come join us. Admission is free as always.
Rehearsals for Jim Stone Elementary program for Monday night went very well this morning. Music Specialist Amanda McCoy has put together a program that contains the use of the "Orff" Instruments and also those crazy "Boomwhackers" which are always fun. 1st and 2nd graders will sing together and also perform their own numbers as well and the Kindergarten students will come on stage to sing three numbers before everyone sings the final number to wrap up the program. Come and join us Monday Evening at 6:30 PM.
The Auditorium today joined the Facebook Family and Twitterverse. We now have pages on Facebook and Twitter. To follow us on Facebook and Twitter just go to the Facebook and Twitter boxes located at the upper right-hand corner of the page. We hope that this will keep you more informed on what we have going on in the Auditorium.
Our Auditorium year is about ready to kick into high gear with a lot of programs scheduled until October 18th. But, first, we will take a moment to honor a group of Conway High School students who have reached the highest honor they can receive as a student, membership in the CHS Chapter of the National Honor Society. This group, which is sponsored by CHS Faculty Member Kim Penn, is under a lot of requirements both academically and through community service. This year's inducttion will take place Thursday Evening at 6:30 PM. If you are Relative or Friend of any of our new members you are most certainly welcome to attend. The event is open to the public and it is free. Seating will begin at 6 PM.

We are looking forward to a great weekend of music filling our buildings. And do not forget, the concert on Saturday Afternoon is free and open to the public.
We would like to extend congratulations to Principal Joel Linn, the Administration, Faculty, Staff and most importantly, the students, on the dedication of the New Conway High School Sunday Afternoon. For many of us it was almost like old home week at the dedication as a number of former CHS employees came by for the ceremonies and stayed around to tour the new facility. During the ceremony, a special honor was bestowed on our Superintendent Dr. Greg Murry, who was named the 2012 Arkansas Superintendent of the Year. We congratulate him on this wonderful honor. It is our hope that you were able to get by for the open house. If not, there will be opportunities down the road to visit.
The new Conway High School Building will be dedicated in ceremonies Sunday Afternoon starting at 2:00 PM in the Main Lobby. After the short program, an open house will be held until 4:00 PM. The dedication and open house is free and open to the public. The new building will be the only building open during the open house. The Auditorium will not be open.
I have made some minor adjustments to the website to help with the flow and to make things a bit easier to navagate. We have eliminated the Coming Attractions page. We place most of our events that are up to two weeks out on the home page so we feel that we were being a bit redundant in that area. If you want to check and see if an event is coming up beyond the two week period, then check the Calender of Events.
We have also added an online Reservation and Equipment page for those that are reserving the Auditorium for use. School Organizations that already cleared their dates with our office may submit both the reservation and equipment forms as you get closer to your event. Anyone else who has not booked a date with us, please call me at (501) 450-4890 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if the date you are wanting is available.
We hope that these efforts will streamline our efforts to make preparing for events here in the Auditorium easier for everyone.
Mike Woodrum is the Auditorium Supervisor for Conway Public Schools, also does the P.A. Announcing for UCA Football and Basketball, Conway High Basketball, Conway Junior High Football, and if that is not enough, has been a summertime thespian with the Conway Dinner Theater productions over the last four summers. And Mike will return this summer for "9 to 5 The Musical".
