We have started a new year in the Conway Public Schools and with that comes a new year for us here in the Auditorium. Although the year will start slow for us, the pace will pick up toward the end of September and we will stay busy right straight through to the end of the semester. We have a number of Elementary programs coming up in October and our first Secondary Music event will take place on Saturday, September 22nd when we host the ASBOA South Region Orchestra Festival. On this day, three groups present music talored mainly for string instruments. We will have a Junior High Full Orchestra and a Senior High Full Orchestra along with a Junior High String Orchestra as well. I am amazed at how well these groups perform every year. This is especially a tough time for those students that play Brass, Woodwinds and Percussion in Marching Bands on Friday Night. Most of those people only get to rehearse with the Senior High Full Orchestra on Saturday Morning. But, we are all impressed with the work the students put in along with their conductors to give us a wonderful concert. So, put the date of September 22nd at 3:00 PM on your calendar for our first major event of the year and come see us.
When you come to the Auditorium for the first time this year, you will notice that we went through some changes over the summer. The front entrance, lobby, hallways and restrooms got a much needed makeover. As soon as all the work is completed, we will get some pictures up and show you a number of the changes. One major feature that the Moms and Dads with babies will like. We now have diaper changing stations in both restrooms. That is something we have needed for a long time and I am glad to see that as a part of the Auditorium. We also installed a new projector and screen over the summer which will allow for more things we can do with PowerPoint presentations and videos. We also have the addition of a Blu-Ray player as well. So, we are very excitied and pleased with these new additions to the building.
We just received word that the CHS Fall Play will be the classic comedy "Harvey" by Mary Chase. More information will be coming. But, put the dates of November 8th, 9th and 10th on your calendar and come see a wonderful production directed by Kelly Webber. (Students: Auditions are September 12th and 13th. Contact Mrs. Webber for more info.)
I hope that each and everyone of you have a great year. We will update the blog as needed and we look forward to sharing with you many of the things we have going on in the James H. Clark Auditorium this year.
Always remember when you are on stage performing, BREAK A LEG!!!
